The purpose of this study was to examine the factors associated with the persistency of suicide prevention gatekeeper activities among ri/tong chiefs, and explore in depth their related experiences. To do this, this study used a mixed method design. Namely, this study conducted a quantitative survey with 187 ri/tong chiefs, who are suicide prevention gatekeepers, and in-depth qualitative interviews with 5 study participants. Quantitative results found that the persistency of suicide prevention gatekeeper activities among ri/tong chiefs was associated with psycho-social recognition and reward, relationships with clients at risk of suicide and project managers, and self-sacrifice as a motivation for public service. In addition, qualitative results regarding experience of suicide prevention gatekeeper activities among ri/tong chiefs were analyzed under four themes: ¡®sense of duty¡¯, ¡®positive change¡¯, ¡®satisfaction¡¯, and ¡®forming a new relationship and its improvement.¡¯ Based on these results, this study discussed practical and policy implications for the persistency of suicide prevention gatekeeper activities among ri/tong chiefs.
